Back in 2012, the Galapagos faced a challenge with multiple vessels repeatedly visiting the same island landing sites, creating significant environmental strain. To address this, the Park introduced a rule mandating that vessels must wait two weeks before revisiting the same Galapagos National Park landing sites. This approach had several positive outcomes:
- It prevented overcrowding by ensuring boats were not all at the same site simultaneously.
- It allowed for an even distribution of vessels throughout the park, making optimal use of its 70+ landing and snorkeling sites.
- It alleviated environmental stress on these areas.
Currently, all Galapagos luxury cruises span a two-week circuit, which companies can split into itineraries of varying durations, from 4 to up to 15 days.
