Discover Machu Picchu With Quasar
Hidden high in the Andes, Machu Picchu is one of those rare places that feels even more extraordinary when you finally stand before it. Yet the experience begins long before you reach the famous citadel. With Quasar as your guide, your journey unfolds through Cusco and the Sacred Valley, where Inca history, living Andean culture, dramatic landscapes, and centuries-old traditions add depth to everything you will discover at Machu Picchu.
Travel at a thoughtful pace with a private local Guide who brings the story of the Inca world to life along the way. Wander through the stone streets of Cusco, explore archaeological sites and Andean communities in the Sacred Valley, and journey by train through the mountains toward Machu Picchu. When you arrive, you are not simply looking at an ancient city—you understand more of the people, landscape, and history that shaped it.
Quasar handles the moving parts behind the scenes, from private transportation and train arrangements to accommodations, entrance requirements, and expert guidance. The result is a seamless Peru Journey that leaves you free to slow down, stay curious, and experience one of the world’s great archaeological wonders with the depth it deserves.
See Machu Picchu Through the Eyes of a Local Guide
Standing before Machu Picchu is unforgettable. Understanding what you are seeing makes it even more meaningful. With a private local Guide beside you, terraces become stories of Inca ingenuity, temples reveal layers of history and belief, and the surrounding mountains become part of a much larger story about the people who built this extraordinary city.
Quasar takes care of the details that shape your visit, including entrance arrangements, your Machu Picchu route, train travel, private transportation, and expert guidance.
Your Journey to Machu Picchu
The illustrated journey to Machu Picchu begins with a flight from Lima to Cusco, followed by a road transfer through the Sacred Valley to Ollantaytambo. From there, travel by train to Machu Picchu Pueblo, also known as Aguas Calientes. A shuttle bus connects the town with the entrance to the Machu Picchu citadel, where your guided exploration begins.
This map illustrates the connections between destinations, not a fixed day-by-day itinerary. Routing and the order of visits vary by your selected Quasar Journey. Map not to scale.

What Quasar Guests Say About Machu Picchu
Frequently Asked Questions About Machu Picchu Tours
Machu Picchu can be visited year-round, but April through October generally offers drier weather in the Andes and clearer mountain views. June through August are among the busiest months, while April, May, September, and October can offer a rewarding balance of generally drier conditions and fewer peak-season travelers.
From roughly November through March, the Andes experience more rainfall, although the surrounding mountains become especially green and atmospheric. Weather can change quickly in any season, so travelers should come prepared for both sun and rain. Quasar can help match the timing of your Machu Picchu visit with your preferred pace, interests, and wider Peru Journey.
Most travelers should allow at least 4 to 5 days to experience Machu Picchu together with the Sacred Valley and Cusco without feeling rushed. A 5-day Journey can cover the highlights, while 7 days allows for a more relaxed pace and deeper cultural discovery.
Machu Picchu may be the headline, but Cusco and the Sacred Valley provide the history, landscapes, and cultural context that make the citadel even more meaningful. Longer Peru Journeys can also include Lima, the Amazon, Arequipa, Colca Canyon, and other destinations.
Yes. Machu Picchu tickets should be booked in advance because admission is limited by date, entry time, circuit, and route. The current system includes 3 main circuits containing 10 routes, and your chosen route determines which areas of Machu Picchu you will experience.
When you travel with Quasar, your Machu Picchu admission is coordinated with your train journey, private transportation, accommodations, Guide, and wider itinerary, so you can focus on the experience instead of managing the moving pieces.
The best Machu Picchu circuit depends on what you want to see, your preferred activity level, and availability for your travel date. Machu Picchu currently has 3 main circuits: Circuit 1, Panoramic; Circuit 2, Machupicchu Classic; and Circuit 3, Machupicchu Royalty. Together, they include 10 different routes.
Some routes emphasize panoramic viewpoints, others provide greater access to the archaeological areas, and certain routes include additional hikes such as Waynapicchu or Machupicchu Mountain. There is no single route that is ideal for every traveler, which is why Quasar helps select and coordinate the option that best fits your Journey.
Most travelers reach Machu Picchu by flying to Cusco, traveling through the Sacred Valley to Ollantaytambo, and taking a scenic train toward Machu Picchu Pueblo. From there, travelers continue to the Machu Picchu archaeological site.
With Quasar, getting there becomes part of the Journey rather than simply a transfer. Private transportation, train arrangements, accommodations, guiding, entrance logistics, and the wider itinerary are thoughtfully coordinated from start to finish.
Cusco’s Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport (CUZ) is the main airport used for trips to Machu Picchu. Most international travelers first arrive in Peru through Lima and then take a domestic flight to Cusco.
Machu Picchu itself does not have an airport. From the Cusco region, most travelers continue through the Sacred Valley by private vehicle and train toward Machu Picchu. Quasar coordinates these connections so the Journey into the Andes feels seamless. Learn more - What airport for Machu Picchu?
Yes. You do not need to hike the Inca Trail to visit Machu Picchu. Most travelers reach the area by train through the Sacred Valley and then visit the archaeological site with a Guide.
The traditional Inca Trail is a separate trekking experience with its own authorized routes and regulations. For travelers who want to experience Machu Picchu without a multi-day trek, a privately guided Journey by road and rail provides a comfortable and immersive alternative.
You do not need to be an experienced hiker to visit Machu Picchu, but you should be comfortable walking on uneven stone paths, inclines, terraces, and stairs. The physical demands vary considerably depending on the circuit and route you choose.
Some routes focus primarily on the archaeological site and viewpoints, while options involving Waynapicchu or Machupicchu Mountain require more strenuous hiking. Quasar can help match the route and overall pace of the Journey to your interests and comfort level.
Altitude can affect travelers visiting the Cusco region, so thoughtful pacing and time to adjust are important. Cusco sits at a substantially higher elevation than Machu Picchu, and some travelers may experience headache, fatigue, nausea, or shortness of breath while acclimatizing.
The U.S. Department of State specifically identifies altitude sickness as a concern in high-elevation destinations such as Cusco and recommends discussing prevention with a medical professional before travel. A thoughtfully planned Journey through Cusco and the Sacred Valley can help create a more comfortable introduction to the Andes.
Machu Picchu and the principal tourism areas around Cusco and the Sacred Valley are not among the areas currently designated “Do Not Travel” by the U.S. Department of State.
Travel conditions can change, so Guests should review current government guidance before departure. With Quasar, experienced local Guides, private transportation, and an in-country team help manage the logistics throughout your Peru Journey.
