Grey Glacier Beach & Peninsula

At 6km (3.7 mi) wide and 30m(98ft) high, Grey Glacier is the largest glacier in Torres del Paine National Park and one of many that emanate from the Southern Patagonia Ice Field. It is also one of the park’s most beautiful destinations. The glacier takes its name from the waters of Grey Lake, which derives its grayish tinge from the mineral rich runoff of the surrounding peaks that cradle both the lake and glacier. This hike takes us from the parking spot through a beech tree forest and into a pebble beach where we can see the glacier wall in the distance across the lake. We will walk across the entire beach for about 20 minutes until we reach a small peninsula and its overlook. From the overlook, a leisurely hike of one and a half hours will lead us around the peninsula and back to the pebble beach. On this hike we will have the opportunity to view the Paine Massif in the distance, as well as massive icebergs that have calved from the glacial wall and sailed down the lake to find resting places by the shore.
