The French Valley is one of the most beautiful valleys in Torres del Paine National Park, and offers a scenic hike among lenga forests, rivers and brushy trails, that includes the middle portion of the famous “W” trek. This excursion begins at Pudeto dock, located on the northwestern arm of Pehoe Lake, where we board our catamaran, a modern ferry offering both indoor and outdoor viewing areas. The half hour crossing takes us south, past Salto Grande Waterfall, and then west, arriving at the dock at the far northwest corner of the lake and Paine Grande Lodge. From the lodge the trail beings, for 7.6 km (4.7 miles) each way and takes roughly 4 to 5 hours round trip. You don’t have to do the entire trek, though this is recommended, and we will point out various scenic stopping off points on your map. The important thing is to gauge your time here so as to make it back for the ferry in time for your return.
Note: The catamaran to the French Valley operates from the beginning of November to the end of March.
