when booking a 9-Day Patagonia Overland Safari by Quasar.
The town of Puerto Natales, access point to the famous Torres del Paine National Park, is located 247km north of Punta Arenas. It is the capital of the Last Hope province, named by the Spanish explorer Juan Ladrillero whose ‘last hope’ of finding a western entrance to the Magellan Strait took place on his final voyage in 1557. Our visit to the town will start in the coastal area by the shore of Canal Señoret where we enjoy the beautiful landscape from the Costanera Pedro Montt promenade, usually visited by birds of the area including cormorants and black-necked swans. We continue our journey along the coast until reaching the fishing pier and market. Heading towards the central part of the city, we will visit some of the more significant constructions including the Municipality building, built during the Magellan cattle boom and financed by the “Sociedad Explotadora Ganadera de Tierra del Fuego”. We will learn more about the history of Puerto Natales during a visit to the Municipal Historic Museum (closed Mondays), as well as having the opportunity and privilege of meeting the local artisans, who will show us their work, traditions and workplaces.
NOTE: This excursion is offered as part of Quasar's Patagonia Safari programs and cannot be booked independently. If you are booked on one of our trips, please refer to your detailed trip itinerary and to your Guide to Excursions document for details.
