Glacier Huemul is the most easily accessible and beautiful glacier in the area and provides a great option for those who want to enjoy an easier, but no less thrilling hike. Offering breathtaking views of the Rio De las Vueltas river valley and the north face of Mt. Fitz Roy, the hike starts at Punta Sur, on the southern edge of Lago Del Desierto, and quickly enters a beech forest, before beginning its gentle ascent. In just over half an hour the well-marked trail reaches a ridge with panoramic views overlooking the awe-inspiring landscape. Continuing along the edge of the ridge for 15 minutes reveals the beautiful Huemul Lake, fed by the glacier of the same name, which slowly creeps down to the lagoon. Easily one of the most popular hikes of the region, the rewarding view from Glacier Huemul is world-class!
