Big Ice Trekking at Perito Moreno

The “Big Ice Trek” takes you much deeper into the ice field of the Perito Moreno Glacier than the “mini-trekking” excursion. We begin at the pier of “Bajo de las Sombras” port where the catamaran awaits to take us to the refuge across the lake. Once at the refuge, and after checking our gear we pick up our crampons and walk for an hour and a half, following a lateral moraine, until we reach the access point to the glacier where the trek starts. At this point we are met by a breathtaking view of the immense plateau of ice that is part of the Perito Moreno Ice Field. During the hike, you will be taught the “ways of the ice” by your guide and introduced to several glacial features, including: moulins, crevasses, caves, and above all, the special feeling of exploring in the middle of the ice field. We will hike for about 3 and a half hours and have time for lunch out on the ice before returning to the refuge.
