Soft Hike Around Laguna Nimez

Just 1 km from the center of El Calafate, on the shores of Lake Argentino, is the Municipal Ecological Reserve of “Laguna Nimez.” This small lagoon is an ideal place for bird watching due to the wide variety of specimens that are in the area, and it is conveniently located close to downtown. You can reach the lagoon either on foot (15 min walk) or by vehicle (3 min drive). At Laguna Nimez, you can find up to 80 species of birds at any given time, especially during the summer months. Some of the most popular species are flamingos, geese, black-necked swans, ibises, lapwings and ducks. The trail around the lagoon is self-guided, and includes clearly marked paths, as well as interpretation stops which include information on the flora and fauna. Brochures are also available at the information center where you purchase tickets, and you will find restrooms there as well.
