Distribution:
From Coquimbo to Magallanes.
Residence:
Annual resident, but some portions of the population migrate north for the winter.
Habitat:
Lakes and open ponds with rushes and marshes.
Food Habits:
Insectivore, carnivore (arthropods and fish).
Reproduction:
In spring they make floating nest in the middle of reeds, and lay 3 to 6 eggs.
Observation:
There is no sexual dimorphism, and they can see in pairs. Its mournful cry is characteristic.
