Bolivar, known as “Boli”, was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador. He became a Galapagos National Park Guide in 1993 and has been leading groups from all over the world ever since.

Bolivar is an expert in earth science, earning degrees in biology, geology and conservation. Bolivar developed a strong interest in wildlife and the outdoors as a child, and he has a palpable enthusiasm for spotting rare Galapagos species. For the past two decades, he has worked as a certified naturalist and guide in Galapagos National Park.

His inviting personality and wonderful sense of humor make him an incredible travel companion and wealth of knowledge. Bolivar’s other interests include swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, photography, and hiking.

Alex Cox first became a Galapagos National Park Guide in 1989. As a San Cristobal Island native, he is particularly passionate about conservation and responsible adventure travel.

One of the most experienced and renowned Level III Guides in Galapagos, Alex has spent nearly three decades helping travelers see Galapagos through Darwin’s lens. He’s known for bringing science alive and making once-in-a-lifetime wildlife experiences happen for Quasar’s travelers.

Alex developed a strong interest in wildlife and the outdoors as a small boy on the island of San Cristóbal before studying at the Central University of Ecuador, where he honed his passion for earth science. During his nearly 30 years guiding expeditions, Alex has led countless trips to Darwin’s famous laboratory of evolution. He is an avid conservationist and speaks fluent English. When not leading our Galapagos Islands adventures, Alex enjoys swimming, hiking, and spending time with his two children.

Cristina was born and raised in Quito. At age of 11, she took her first tour to Galapagos and fell in love with the islands. After finishing high school, she studied business and applied languages. With fluency in English, German and French, she has led trips for international travelers in the Galapagos, the Amazon, and Peru.

Driven by her passions for wildlife, science, and education, she obtained Naturalist Guide certification in 1996 and returned to her favorite place in the world. Guiding in Galapagos allows her to enjoy the magic of the islands and spend her life near the sea. She loves snorkeling, diving, and whale watching. Her friends even call her “the whale whisperer.”

A world traveler, she believes gathering life experiences and exploring different cultures enriches you as a person. She has been to the seven continents. Outside of Guiding, Cristina’s other passion is yoga. She became a certified yoga teacher in Quito in 2015 and took another yoga teacher training in Bali in 2017.

Roberto Plaza was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador. His passion for nature developed at a young age, when his father took him off- grid to spend three months every summer on a pristine beach by the coast of Ecuador. He received his first set of snorkeling gear at the age of 6 and learned to explore land and underwater life.

Roberto arrived in the Galapagos Islands in 1986 and received his certification as a Naturalist Guide in 1994. He obtained a biology degree at the Latina University in San José, Costa Rica in 1998 and has been leading trips on the Galapagos for 27 years. Roberto loves to take people out to show them the wonders of the Galapagos Islands. With him, you’re always in the right place at the right time. He brings biology, ecology, and conservation, and ecotourism alive for all ages and has a particular knack for spotting the rarest wildlife you never thought you’d get to see.

Roberto lives with his family in the Highlands of Santa Cruz Island where they own a farm and live amongst giant tortoises. He connects with Galapagos in every way imaginable: through surfing, photography, and learning about the natural and human history of the islands.

Walter Campoverde, known as “Campito” by his friends, was born and raised in Santa Cruz Island, Galapagos. At the age of 15, Walter received a scuba diver certification, and has done more than one thousand immersions to explore and discover the underwater world.

With a deep love for the natural world, Walter became a Galapagos National park Naturalist Guide in 1985, when he was only 18 years old. Walter continued his studies at the Catolica University in Guayaquil and obtained a tourism management degree. He has since obtained an environmental management degree at Loja University.

Nearly 20 years ago, Walter became a Master Scuba Instructor and one of the first Naturalist Guides of the Galapagos Marine Reserve. Walter looks for any opportunity to share his radiant passion for nature, conservation, bird watching, and underwater photography.

Dolores Villacreses, also known as “Lola,” has always been intrigued by the unique environment of the Galapagos Islands. After visiting the islands as a teenager, she dreamt of becoming a Naturalist Guide – and has since made the dream a reality.

From sea to sky, she enjoys educating travelers about the archipelago. As a certified Naturalist Guide for over 20 years, Lola has led expeditions in marine life, bird watching, geology, and conservation programs. Supported by her degree in marine biology, she also runs her own business on marine safety and travels around the world with her husband Fabio.

Lola enjoys observing cetaceans and discovering how animals react to humans. Her other interests are snorkeling, scuba diving, photography, and stargazing.

Daniel Jacome is the son of a Galápagos Naturalist and the grandson of a 1958 Galápagos explorer. With such a strong Galapagos lineage, it’s no wonder he chose Guiding as his field of expertise and the islands as his naturalist playground.

Daniel became a Galapagos National Park Naturalist Guide in 1994, with additional studies in tourism administration, biology, and botany.

His love for the islands and deep understanding of its unique inhabitants makes traveling with him an enlightening, memorable experience. Some of his favorite Galápagos activities are swimming with the sea lions and birdwatching. When he is not guiding trips with Quasar Expeditions, he plays music with his band, Tercer Mundo, and spends time with his children.

Gustavo Andrade was born and raised in Guayaquil, where he later cultivated his love of learning and inquisitive mind with a degree in industrial engineering. In 2000, Gustavo moved to New York City, where after nine long months, realized that his love for nature was stronger than his interest in larger cities.

Since moving to Galapagos, he has been involved in many different fields, from entrepreneurship (developing the ferry transportation system in 2001) to teaching at a university and becoming a Naturalist Guide in 2006. Guests reap the benefits of his time as an educator, remarking on his fun, engaging exploration style and his ability to “translate” science. Gustavo’s interests include snorkeling, kayaking and hiking, and he is also an avid photographer.
