The cacao plants genetic origin belongs to the smallest country in the rugged Andes - Ecuador.
In 2013, in the depths of the Ecuadorian Amazon Rainforest floor, archaeologists discovered several containers with remnants of cocoa dating back to 3,300 B.C. Chocolate, the food of the Gods, had existed much earlier than the world had thought, and with this finding, the origins of one of today's most valued organic treasures had been traced back to Ecuador.
The Land of Cacao & Chocolate is an itinerary that aims to retrace the steps of the Mayo-Chinchipe-Marañon culture of 3,300 B.C., as we explore the land where the Cacao plant was first turned into the food of the Gods. We will venture into the hot and humid environment that is essential to grow the most flavorful cocoa beans around the planet, follow chocolate's progress throughout history with our partner, award winning Pacari, and discover the artful process involved to turn the cacao bean into the prized and varied delicacy we enjoy today.
