Name: Chuncho / Austral Pygmy Owl
Scientific Name: Glaucidium nanum
Size: 17 to 21 cm approximately
Rounded body, beak, feet and iris are yellow. Its back is brown; part of its belly is white with gravy lines.
Puts 3 to 5 eggs in rock crevices or hollow trees.
From Magallanes to Atacama.
Range from city parks to dense old Nothofagus forest. Prefer edge or more open forest, but also uses shrubs, suburban areas and agricultural areas with some large trees and bushes.
Carnivore eats small birds, rodents and insects.
