Galapagos Islands Ecosystem & Conservation
eco-tourism
Our love for the nature of the wonderful Galapagos ecosystem inspired us to offer Galapagos eco-tourism over two decades ago to share and preserve the beauty of this part of the world. Today’s travelers expect tour companies to protect the country, indigenous communities and the Galapagos ecosystem where they operate. At Quasar Expeditions we take this exceptional opportunity to support development and integration of local communities into our changing world, without losing the unique identity in the process. We’re confident that our Galapagos eco-tourism efforts will be appreciated by future generations of responsible travelers.

Foundations that support the Galapagos ecosystem

• Our Galapagos eco-tourism operations allow us to be a permanent supporter of the Charles Darwin Foundation, working to preserve the Galapagos ecosystem and its endangered species through research and scientific knowledge
• Members of Fundacion Natura, who, with the World Wildlife Fund, develop conservation projects for the Galapagos ecosystem and other Ecuadorian parks.
• Member of Fundacion Galapagos, working to recycle waste produced by Galapagos eco-tourism and the population of Galapagos.

Waste Management Efforts

• The fragile Galapagos ecosystem is susceptible to even the smallest changes. Quasar Expeditions’ Galapagos eco-tourism supports a waste-management effort to protect the Islands.
• Aboard our Galapagos eco-tourism operations, glass is recycled and used to make building blocks and other building materials.
• Plastic waste, burnt oils and other non bio-degradable waste from Galapagos eco-tourism is shipped out of the Galapagos ecosystem and back to the continent to be disposed of properly.
• Our Galapagos eco-tourism operation has been carefully planned so that it utilizes the least amount of plastic and non-biodegradable waste possible.

Technologies that minimize contamination

• State-of-the-art technologies for the engines and waste-management systems of our Galapagos eco-tourism yachts protect the Galapagos ecosystem.
• Extremely clean-running, combustion-maximizing engines produce very little waste.
• Meticulously-designed waste management system releases no inorganic waste from our Galapagos eco-tourism expeditions into the Galapagos ecosystem.

The Boy Scouts Project of Galapagos

• A youth-development organization, affiliated with the WFIS (Wolrd Federation of Independent Scouts)that empowers children from the Islands to achieve their potential by becoming active participants in the conservation of the fragile Galapagos ecosystem where long-term conservation depends on public awareness.
• Since 2006, Quasar Expeditions has been the sole sponsor of the Boy Scouts of Galapagos’ vacation camps, uniforms and kayaks, sponsored seminars and other courses
• Quasar Expeditions obtained the concession of 20,000 m2 of land for the Boy Scouts
• By providing a monthly allowance to scout leader and provincial delegate Mr. Carlos Gil, we educate the children of Galapagos to preserve the Galapagos ecosystem, ensuring future generations of Galapagos eco-tourism.

Support of Local Communities in Continental Ecuador

• Quasar Expeditions only works with Ecuadors countryside suppliers (haciendas, jungle lodges, restaurants, etc) who provide training and employment to the local population.
• Our highly-qualified Galapagos eco-tourism guides are a strong influence in local communities to build an understanding of the advantages they have to improve their living conditions, while bringing awareness of their unique culture and the beauty of their environment.
• As a successful tour operator we have influence in government programs that develop Galapagos eco-tourism: the lowest-impact industry that will benefit the entire world by preventing abuse and destruction of the Galapagos ecosystem.
•Most of our itineraries include the opportunity for tourists to interact with the local population by visiting a schools and social service programs where we deliver a contribution on behalf of each tourist.

The Genocide Intervention Network

•Empowers individuals and communities to prevent and stop genocide.
•Quasar Expeditions envisions a world where the global community is willing and able to protect civilians from genocide and mass atrocities.
•As part of the anti-genocide movement, we raise money and political awareness for civilian protection initiatives around the world. Quasar Expeditions’ auction donations contribute to the efforts to prevent and stop genocide around the world, especially in Darfur.
